## [Migrating from Google Fit to Health Connect in Capacitor](/blog/google-fit-to-health-connect-migration-in-capacitor/)

Google supports the Fit APIs only until the end of 2026, and new developer signups have been closed since May 1, 2024\. If your app still reads steps, workouts or heart rate through Fit, you are on a deadline. A Google Fit to Health Connect migration in a Capacitor app also involves more than swapping one Android SDK for another, because Health Connect exists on Android only and the iOS side of your app talks to Apple HealthKit.

This guide covers three things: what actually replaces each Fit API, a full Fit to Health Connect data type mapping table, and the steps to port a Capacitor codebase. The [Capacitor Health plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/health/) handles the last part with a single API for both platforms.

## [Google Play Contacts Policy 2027 for Capacitor](/blog/capacitor-google-play-contacts-policy-2027/)

Google Play's new Contacts Permissions policy takes effect on January 27, 2027\. Apps that target Android 17 (API level 37) or later may only declare `READ_CONTACTS` if the Android Contact Picker cannot cover their core functionality. If your Capacitor app only lets users pick a contact, you need to drop the permission, and with the [Capacitor Contacts plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/contacts/) that means passing the `property` option to [pickContacts(...)](/docs/sdks/capacitor/contacts/#pickcontacts).

There is a catch that Google's announcement doesn't mention. Switching to the system contact picker does not by itself free you from `READ_CONTACTS`. Below Android 17, the picker hands your app an access grant so narrow that it contains no phone number, no email address, and no structured name (only a display name). This guide covers what the policy requires, why the picker alone falls short, and how to select a contact detail without ever asking for the permission.

## [How to Detect Satellite Networks in Capacitor](/blog/how-to-detect-satellite-networks-in-a-capacitor-app/)

To detect satellite networks in a Capacitor app, install the [Capacitor Network plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/network/) and call [getStatus()](/docs/sdks/capacitor/network/#getstatus): on Android 15+, a satellite connection is reported as the `SATELLITE` connection type, and on iOS 26+, a carrier-provided satellite connection is reported as `CELLULAR` with the `ultraConstrained` property set to `true`.

Satellite connectivity has moved from emergency-only messaging to real data connections for apps. Carriers now connect unmodified phones directly to satellites, Android 15 introduced a dedicated satellite network transport, and iOS 26 added APIs for handling ultra-constrained networks. This guide shows how to detect these connections on both platforms, how to opt your app into them, and how to adapt to bandwidth that is a fraction of what your app normally sees.

## [How to Detect the Network Status in Capacitor](/blog/how-to-detect-the-network-status-in-a-capacitor-app/)

To detect the network status in a Capacitor app, install the [Capacitor Network plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/network/), call [getStatus()](/docs/sdks/capacitor/network/#getstatus) to read the current connection, and attach a [networkStatusChange](/docs/sdks/capacitor/network/#addlistenernetworkstatuschange-) listener to get notified whenever it changes. The plugin tells you whether the device is connected, how it is connected (Wi-Fi, cellular, ethernet, or VPN), and things the browser's `navigator.onLine` can't: whether the connection has verified internet access, whether it is metered, and whether the user has enabled a data-saving mode.

In this guide, we build network detection up step by step: reading the current status, reacting to changes, telling "connected" apart from "actually online", handling metered and data-saving connections, checking airplane mode, and putting it all together in an offline banner.

## [How to Use SQLite in a Capacitor App](/blog/how-to-use-sqlite-in-a-capacitor-app/)

To use SQLite in a Capacitor app, install the [Capacitor SQLite plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/sqlite/), open a database with `open()`, and then read and write rows with `query()` and `execute()`. The plugin gives you one API across Android, iOS, Web, and Electron, so the same code runs everywhere without touching platform-specific database code.

This is the integration guide: we start from an empty project and build up to a production-ready setup — schema migrations with versioning, transactions, an encrypted database, and a secure place to keep the encryption key. Every snippet is copy-paste ready.

## [Track App Events with Firebase Analytics in Capacitor](/blog/capacitor-firebase-analytics-guide/)

Knowing what users actually do in your app, not just how many installed it, is the difference between guessing and deciding. The [Capacitor Firebase Analytics plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/firebase/analytics/) gives you Google's free, unlimited-volume analytics service behind one API for Android, iOS, and web.

This guide walks the whole thing end to end — installing and configuring the plugin, logging events and screen views, and verifying them in real time — plus the platform quirks that catch teams off guard and the parts of Firebase Analytics that are easy to get wrong in production.

## [Upload & Manage Files with Firebase Storage in Capacitor](/blog/capacitor-firebase-cloud-storage-guide/)

Profile pictures, user-uploaded documents, generated PDFs — every app eventually needs somewhere to put files that isn't the device itself. The [Capacitor Firebase Cloud Storage plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/firebase/cloud-storage/) gives you native upload/download SDKs for Android and iOS, plus the Firebase JS SDK on web, behind one shared API.

This guide walks the whole thing end to end — creating the storage bucket, installing and configuring the plugin, uploading and downloading files — plus the platform differences that catch teams off guard and the production practices worth knowing before you ship.

## [Capacitor Firestore: Real-Time Data & Offline Sync](/blog/capacitor-firebase-cloud-firestore-guide/)

Storing and syncing app data usually means picking between rolling your own backend or relying on the Firebase JavaScript SDK inside a WebView, which comes with weaker performance and its own authentication quirks on native. The [Capacitor Firebase Cloud Firestore plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/firebase/cloud-firestore/), sponsored by [AppScreens](https://appscreens.com/?%5Flocale=en&utm%5Fsource=capawesome&utm%5Fmedium=referral&utm%5Fcampaign=capawesome&gclid=capawesome), gives you the native Android and iOS Firestore SDKs behind one Capacitor API instead.

This guide walks the whole thing end to end — creating the Firestore database, installing and configuring the plugin, reading and writing data, and how offline sync and real-time listeners behave in practice — plus the production practices and gotchas that trip teams up in real apps.

## [Firebase Authentication in Capacitor: Setup & Best Practices](/blog/capacitor-firebase-authentication-guide/)

Most apps need to know who's using them, and building that from scratch (password hashing, session tokens, social login handshakes, phone verification) is a lot of surface area to get wrong. The [Capacitor Firebase Authentication plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/firebase/authentication/) wraps Firebase's native Android and iOS Authentication SDKs, plus the Firebase JS SDK on web, behind a single API, so you get production-grade sign-in without writing that layer yourself.

The catch is that the setup has real depth — a Firebase project, native config files, and per-provider steps that the reference docs assume you already understand. This guide walks the whole thing end to end: creating the project, installing and configuring the plugin, wiring up Google and email/password sign-in, and then the production practices and gotchas that actually trip teams up.

## [Capacitor Privacy Screen: Hide Sensitive App Content](/blog/capacitor-privacy-screen-hide-app-content/)

Open your phone's app switcher right now and look at what's on screen. If you use a banking app, a dating app, or anything with private messages, there's a good chance a snapshot of that content is sitting there in plain view. Anyone can also screenshot or screen-record it without you knowing. The [Capacitor Privacy Screen plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/privacy-screen/) closes that gap with a few lines of code, and the apps that use it well tend to be the ones people trust with their most sensitive information.
