The Capawesome July update is here! This update includes new features and improvements for [Capawesome Cloud](/docs/cloud/) and our [Plugins](/docs/sdks/capacitor/) — plus two brand-new desktop platforms. Let's take a look at the most important changes. Git connections now live at the organization level instead of being tied to individual user accounts, which means a colleague going on vacation or leaving the company no longer breaks your team's builds. Owners and admins manage all connections on the new **Git** page in the [Capawesome Cloud Console](https://console.cloud.capawesome.io/), and every app in the organization can use them. The new Capawesome Cloud [GitHub App](/docs/cloud/integrations/github/) is now the recommended way to connect GitHub. You pick exactly which repositories it may access, it requests read-only contents and metadata, and no personal tokens are stored. Two new providers joined as well: [Gitea](/docs/cloud/integrations/gitea/) for Gitea Cloud and self-hosted instances, and [Git (HTTP/S)](/docs/cloud/integrations/git/) for any Git server reachable over HTTPS. Every provider also supports personal access tokens, including self-hosted and enterprise setups. If you connected your repositories via OAuth, plan a migration: OAuth-based Git connections are deprecated and stop working on **December 31, 2026**. Existing GitHub OAuth connections can be upgraded to the GitHub App in place, without touching your builds or automations. Signing in to Capawesome Cloud with GitHub or GitLab is a separate mechanism and is not affected. ### Build Sharing[¶](#build-sharing "Permanent link") Getting a build onto a tester's device used to mean TestFlight reviews, device registration, or an APK in an email thread. With [build sharing](/blog/share-mobile-app-builds-with-testers/), you can turn any successful build into a public [share link](/docs/cloud/native-builds/share-a-build/): testers open the page, scan the QR code, and install the build — no Capawesome Cloud account and no app store review. Build logs and other internals stay private. Every share can carry a description of what to test and an optional expiration date, and you can revoke it at any time. It works for Capacitor and Cordova apps as well as native Android and iOS apps. Sharing is also available in your pipeline. The [Capawesome CLI](/docs/cloud/cli/commands/) can create a share as part of the build itself: `[](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-0-1)npx @capawesome/cli apps:builds:create --platform android --share --json ` Our [GitHub Action](/docs/cloud/native-builds/integrations/github-actions/) has a matching `share` input, and its `shareWebUrl` and `shareQrCodeUrl` outputs let you post the QR code straight into a pull request comment — so every pull request ships with a build reviewers can install in seconds. ## Platforms[¶](#platforms "Permanent link") ### Capacitor Electron Platform[¶](#capacitor-electron-platform "Permanent link") We are excited to announce the [Capacitor Electron Platform](/docs/sdks/capacitor/electron/)! It adds Electron as a target to your Capacitor project, right next to Android and iOS, so you can build desktop apps for macOS, Windows, and Linux with the `cap add`, `cap sync`, and `cap run` commands you already know. It's free, open source under the MIT license, and built as a modern replacement for the no longer actively maintained Capacitor Community Electron Platform — including a [migration guide](/blog/capacitor-community-electron-migration/). Security defaults are strict and cannot be weakened: a sandboxed renderer, context isolation, a strict Content Security Policy, and validated IPC. Plugins with an Electron implementation work out of the box, and plugins with a web implementation work automatically via fallback. It's also the first Capacitor desktop platform with built-in support for Live Updates, including automatic rollback on failed boots, and it's open to all Live Update providers. The platform requires Capacitor 6 or later and Electron 28 or later. Read the [announcement post](/blog/announcing-the-capacitor-electron-platform/) for the full story, or jump straight into our [guide on building a desktop app with Capacitor and Electron](/blog/how-to-build-a-desktop-app-with-capacitor-and-electron/). ### Capacitor Tauri Platform[¶](#capacitor-tauri-platform "Permanent link") One day later, we released its sibling: the [Capacitor Tauri Platform](/docs/sdks/capacitor/tauri/). Instead of bundling a browser, it renders your app in the webview the operating system already provides and runs its core logic in Rust. The result is a much smaller download — roughly 3 to 10 MB instead of the 80 to 150 MB an embedded Chromium needs. Its Rust core uses deny-by-default permissions, so each plugin only gets the capabilities it actually needs. It requires Capacitor 8 or later and Tauri 2 or later and is MIT-licensed as well. The two platforms are complementary rather than competing: Electron gives you the full plugin ecosystem and Live Updates, Tauri gives you lean binaries. The [Capacitor PDF Viewer plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/pdf-viewer/) gained a `showShareButton` option that adds a share button to the viewer toolbar on Android and iOS, and the [Capacitor Volume plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/volume/) added a `volumeButtonReleased` event on Android, so you can react to a hardware volume button being released and not just pressed. The [Capacitor Privacy Screen plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/privacy-screen/) also got an important fix: on iOS, the privacy screen no longer appears during system dialogs such as permission or biometric prompts. ### ML Kit[¶](#ml-kit "Permanent link") We released [Capacitor ML Kit 8.2.0](/blog/capacitor-mlkit-8-2-0-release/), the biggest release in the project's history, with 14 new plugins that complete our coverage of Google's ML Kit APIs. On the vision side, there are new plugins for [text recognition](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/text-recognition/), [image labeling](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/image-labeling/), [object detection](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/object-detection/), [pose detection](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/pose-detection/), and [digital ink recognition](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/digital-ink-recognition/). For natural language, [smart reply](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/smart-reply/), [entity extraction](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/entity-extraction/), and [language identification](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/language-identification/) joined the collection. The most interesting addition is a set of six GenAI plugins that run Gemini Nano directly on the device, including [GenAI Prompt](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/genai-prompt/), [GenAI Summarization](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/genai-summarization/), and [GenAI Image Description](/docs/sdks/capacitor/mlkit/genai-image-description/). Everything runs on-device: no server, no API keys, and no per-request costs. Head over to the [release post](/blog/capacitor-mlkit-8-2-0-release/) for the full list and usage examples. ### Age Signals[¶](#age-signals "Permanent link") The [Capacitor Age Signals plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/age-signals/) was updated to Play Age Signals `0.0.4`. This is a breaking change, so check the `BREAKING.md` file in the repository before upgrading. In return, error codes from the Play Age Signals library are now mapped properly, which makes failures far easier to handle. The release also adds two iOS methods. Use [getRegulatoryRequirements()](/docs/sdks/capacitor/age-signals/#getregulatoryrequirements) to find out whether the user is in a region that requires age assurance and which regulatory features your app must support, and [showSignificantUpdateAcknowledgment(...)](/docs/sdks/capacitor/age-signals/#showsignificantupdateacknowledgment) to present the system interface when an adult must acknowledge a significant change to your app: `[](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-1-1)import { AgeSignals, RegulatoryFeature } from '@capawesome/capacitor-age-signals'; [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-1-2) [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-1-3)const { regulatoryFeatures } = await AgeSignals.getRegulatoryRequirements(); [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-1-4) [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-1-5)if (regulatoryFeatures.includes(RegulatoryFeature.SignificantAppChangeRequiresAdultNotification)) { [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-1-6) await AgeSignals.showSignificantUpdateAcknowledgment({ [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-1-7) updateDescription: 'This app now supports direct messages between users.', [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-1-8) }); [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-1-9)} ` Both methods are available on iOS. ### SQLite[¶](#sqlite "Permanent link") The [Capacitor SQLite plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/sqlite/) added a [closeAll()](/docs/sdks/capacitor/sqlite/#closeall) method that closes every open database at once. This helps whenever the database identifiers are no longer available — most commonly after the web app has been reloaded and the previous identifiers are gone: `[](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-2-1)import { Sqlite } from '@capawesome-team/capacitor-sqlite'; [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-2-2) [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-2-3)await Sqlite.closeAll(); ` Closing databases also got safer: `close()` and `closeAll()` now roll back open transactions, so a dangling transaction no longer keeps the database file locked. ### Purchases[¶](#purchases "Permanent link") The [Capacitor Purchases plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/purchases/) exposes two new properties on the `Product` interface. `subscriptionOffers` contains the offers available for a subscription — on Android one entry per base plan and offer combination, on iOS exactly one entry — and `subscriptionGroupId` returns the subscription group of an auto-renewable subscription on iOS: `[](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-3-1)import { Purchases } from '@capawesome-team/capacitor-purchases'; [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-3-2) [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-3-3)const { products } = await Purchases.getProductsByIds({ productIds: ['premium_monthly'] }); [](#%5F%5Fcodelineno-3-4)const offers = products[0]?.subscriptionOffers; ` This makes it much easier to build paywalls that show introductory pricing or free trials without hardcoding your store configuration in the app. ### OAuth[¶](#oauth "Permanent link") The [Capacitor OAuth plugin](/docs/sdks/capacitor/oauth/) added an `additionalParameters` property to the result of [login(...)](/docs/sdks/capacitor/oauth/#login). Capacitor apps now reach the desktop through two new platforms — [Electron](/docs/sdks/capacitor/electron/) for the full plugin ecosystem and Live Updates, [Tauri](/docs/sdks/capacitor/tauri/) for lean binaries — while Capawesome Cloud made test builds shareable with a link and moved Git connections to where they belong: your organization.
