# Built to Last: The Capawesome Story[¶](#built-to-last-the-capawesome-story "Permanent link")

If you've been following the [Ionic Appflow](/blog/alternative-to-appflow/) news, you're not alone in feeling unsettled. Last year, Ionic announced the end of their commercial products by late 2027, and over the past few weeks we've had more calls than ever with teams asking us the same question, sometimes directly, sometimes carefully: _"What's to say you won't do the same thing in two years?"_

It's a fair question. And it deserves a real answer.

[ ![Build and deploy your Capacitor app with Capawesome Cloud](../../assets/external/cloud.capawesome.io/assets/banners/cloud-build-and-deploy-capacitor-apps.69628c3f.png) ](https://capawesome.io/)

## Where we come from[¶](#where-we-come-from "Permanent link")

Capawesome didn't start as a business. It started as a frustration.

Back in 2021, we were building mobile apps for clients and kept running into the same gaps in the Capacitor ecosystem. So we did what developers do: we built the tools we wished existed and published them as open source. Those plugins found their way into the official [Capacitor Community](https://github.com/capacitor-community) organization on GitHub, where we're still active members and still shipping today.

In 2022, Robin Genz founded Capawesome to give those plugins a proper home. Not to chase a funding round. Not to build toward an exit. To build something we genuinely wanted to exist, and to build it alongside the community that had already shown up for it.

That's the origin story. And it matters, because it shapes everything we do. You can read more about the team and the mission on our [About Us](https://capawesome.io/about-us) page.

## Bootstrapped. On purpose.[¶](#bootstrapped-on-purpose "Permanent link")

We have no investors. No board. No external pressure to pivot, cut costs, or optimize the business in ways that hurt the people using it.

Every decision we make answers to one group: our customers and community. That's it.

This isn't a flex, it's a structural commitment. When you're bootstrapped, you can't afford to lose trust. It's the only thing that keeps the lights on. So we protect it accordingly.

## We've been growing, not coasting[¶](#weve-been-growing-not-coasting "Permanent link")

Since 2021, here's what's happened at Capawesome:

* **2021** \- First open-source Capacitor plugins, joined Capacitor Community on GitHub
* **2022** \- Capawesome founded, joined the Ionic Developer Expert program
* **2023** \- Launched [Capawesome Insiders](/docs/insiders/): production-hardened SDKs with real support commitments
* **2024** \- Announced [Capawesome Cloud](https://capawesome.io/): our full mobile CI/CD platform with [Native Builds](/docs/cloud/native-builds/), [Live Updates](/docs/cloud/live-updates/), and [App Store Publishing](/docs/cloud/app-store-publishing/)
* **2025** \- Heavily improved Capawesome Cloud based on direct user feedback: faster builds, better reliability, and a long list of features that came straight from our community
* **2026** \- Unified everything under the [Capawesome Platform](/blog/announcing-capawesome-platform/): one login, one roadmap, one ecosystem

Every step has been intentional. We've reinvested in the product. We've expanded the team. We've built the kind of platform that we, as mobile developers ourselves, actually want to use.

This isn't a company looking for the exit. This is a company in the middle of its story. Today, more than **1,000 teams** trust Capawesome, from indie developers to Fortune 500 companies, and our plugins are downloaded **over 3 million times every month**.

## We use what we ship[¶](#we-use-what-we-ship "Permanent link")

The people you talk to in [Discord](https://discord.gg/VCXxSVjefW) are the same people who write the code. We don't have a separate engineering team insulated from customer feedback. We hear you, and we build accordingly.

Every message in Discord, every GitHub issue, every [support](/docs/cloud/support/) email lands with someone who can actually do something about it. That feedback loop is the roadmap. It's not a nice-to-have, it's how we've built everything so far.

And don't take our word for it, ask any of our users. When teams talk about Capawesome, three things come up consistently: the quality of support, the reliability of the service, and the stability they can count on. That's not a coincidence. It's what happens when the people building the product are also the people answering your questions.

> "We've been using Capawesome Cloud for CI/CD across our Capacitor apps and couldn't be happier. Migrating from Appflow was a breeze — we were up and running in no time, with way less friction than anticipated. The setup was straightforward and the workflow has been rock solid ever since. But what really sets Capawesome apart is the support. The team is incredibly responsive and genuinely helpful. It's great to get that level of personal attention from a SaaS tool. Highly recommend it to any Capacitor team looking to simplify their deployment pipeline."

## Stability isn't a promise. It's a pattern.[¶](#stability-isnt-a-promise-its-a-pattern "Permanent link")

We're [SOC 2 compliant, and GDPR ready](/blog/capawesome-cloud-soc-2-type-2-compliance/). We run yearly third-party audits. Our [status page](https://status.capawesome.io) is public. Our [CLI](/docs/cloud/cli/) is fully documented. Your code and your data are always yours.

We didn't build Capawesome to play around with. We built it to earn the right to be the long-term choice.

In a world full of uncertainty, we want to be the boring, reliable part of your stack. Not boring in a bad way. Boring in the way that means: it works, it's there when you need it, the team picks up the phone, and nothing blows up on a Friday afternoon.

The 2027 deadline is closer than it feels. Teams that start the migration early have time to do it right, without pressure, without cutting corners, and without scrambling at the last minute. Don't wait.

That's what we're building toward. Every day, with every release, with every support call.

## Still not sure? That's okay.[¶](#still-not-sure-thats-okay "Permanent link")

We'd rather you ask the hard questions now than have doubts later. Reach out on [Discord](https://discord.gg/VCXxSVjefW), via email, or by booking a call with us directly. We'll walk you through whatever you need to feel confident.

Because the best migration is one you make with full clarity. And we'll be here on the other side of it. 💜

## Ready to make the move?[¶](#ready-to-make-the-move "Permanent link")

If you're planning your migration off Ionic Appflow, we'd love to help you map it out. Book a free, no-pressure call and we'll walk through your setup, your timeline, and the path that makes sense for your team.

Prefer to kick the tires first? Every plan on Capawesome Cloud comes with a **14-day free trial**, so you can run real builds, ship a live update, and see the platform in your own workflow before you commit.

## Final Thoughts[¶](#final-thoughts "Permanent link")

Trust isn't built in a press release. It's built in the small, consistent decisions a company makes over years, who they answer to, how they respond when things go wrong, and whether they're still around when you need them. Capawesome was built by developers, for developers, and we plan to be here for the long haul.

If you'd like to dig deeper into the migration path, check out our guide on [Capawesome Cloud as a complete alternative to Ionic Appflow](/blog/alternative-to-appflow/). Have questions? Join the conversation on our [Discord server](https://discord.gg/VCXxSVjefW), or [subscribe to the Capawesome newsletter](https://capawesome.io/newsletter) to stay updated on what's next.
